My record collection: Cormac Parle, Stoat
Yann Tiersen - Amélie OST
This gets played constantly during September in my house every year. It's just such perfect autumn-y music. Never really listen to it at any other time.
Tom Waits - Franks Wild Years
This album is mostly responsible for my taste for weird shit, bought it on CD recently and it's as brilliant as I remembered it.
Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the 36 Chambers
My younger brothers were into hip-hop all their lives, but I never really got it until I heard this. It's comfort listening for me now, I put it on whenever I need to be soothed.
Mumblin Deaf Ro - Senor My Friend
Ten poorly-recorded but brilliant songs from a local guy. It's a few years old now but still gets a regular airing. Stoat were afraid to talk to Ro when we heard the album first - we were just awestruck. Now he is Our Friend
De Amsterdam Klezmer Band
A Dutch expert on bat detectors (honest) who stayed in my house introduced me to these guys. They play East European Jewish part music, kind of a "Fiddler on the Roof" buzz with accordians and saxophones and lots of people shouting "HOI!". A big favourite of my five-month old daughter.
Boxes - Big ships in the night, small boats in the morning
Listening to this again in preparation for Boxes' next album which is due out pretty soon. I suppose you'd call it post-rock, with some serious fire in its belly. I'm looking forward to the next one a lot.
