  • "Things what you're missing" is a listing of independent gigs, club nights, record releases and other happenings that you might not otherwise hear about. It goes out once a week by email - you can subscribe by sending an email to THINGS-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
I'm involved in setting this thing up, and I recommend you subscribe to it. There's lots of cool stuff happening in Dublin (and around the country) that practically no-one knows about - brilliant local bands, foreign bands playing in tiny venues years before anyone hears of them (Green Day once played in The Attic and 41 people paid in), avant-garde operas, exhibitions, talks, festivals. Subscribe and you won't have to miss out ever again.
  • We've also started up a poetry service called 'Better Mondays for Everyone'. Send an email to stoat_poems-subscribe@yahoogroups.com and you'll get an uplifting poem (by a proper poet, not a member of Stoat) every Monday to help you through the day.

  • That American compilation that we're on has been finished, but my copies were posted to my old address, sat in the Post Office for a while, and then were returned to the US ... despite me having paid a hefty fee for mail redirection to my new place. Aaaaargh. Hopefully they'll be on their way over here again soon.
  • Well, it's October and we didn't get another CD out during the summer. The last set of recordings didn't turn out as well as we had hoped, so we're planning to do some more (in a proper studio next time) as soon as we can

  • Stoat cause riot!! If you weren't in the Clifton Court on Friday you missed the spectacle of drunken teenagers beating each other up to the accompaniment of Stoat tunes whining through the WORST sound system I've ever come across. Deadly :)
29/05/2001
  • We're recording this weekend, so if all goes well we'll have a new CD out during the Summer.
  • Put some words for some of our tunes up.
25/04/2001
  • Sorry to anyone who showed up last night to see Richie Egan. He had to pull out at the last minute but was ably stood-in-for by the excellent Jeff Martin.
  • The benevolent Pete, who hosts our site, is having some trouble with his own hosting. If the site disappears for a while, don't fret, it'll get sorted out. Our irregular mailouts will continue as usual.

  • Stoat hits the headlines again! See the press page.
18/01/2001
  • Today's Hot Press had a nice little review of our gig last week with One Half Monk in Whelan's. Check it out here.
08/01/2001
  • The contact form and the 'subscribe to mailing list' thingummy are working again now. Hurray!
05/01/2001
  • Happy New Year! We've gone up on peoplesound.com, if you want to take a look. £3.99 is the minimum they'll sell a CD for, so you're better off buying from Road Records (we've no copies left ourselves).
20/12/2000
  • Sorry to anyone who showed up to see us on the 16th in Flannelly's in Castlebar. When we arrived in the venue there was no PA so there was no gig. We ended up playing a few tunes with a metal band called Nemesis up the road in The Cabin, so the night actually turned out to be quite fun.

  • A really nice review of the CD single has gone up on independentsounds.net.
  • We got some copies of the Celtic Connections CD. It's a pretty mixed bag (folk, soul, New Age, rock etc. - and the quality is pretty mixed too) but if anyone wants one get in touch, or come to a gig and we'll have some.
28/11/2000
  • Our formmail thing isn't working properly at the minute, which means that you can't subscribe to our mailing list or use the 'contact' form on this site. If you want to get in touch mail us at stoat@oceanfree.net
27/11/2000
  • We're getting a few copies of that Celtic Connections CD shortly so if anyone wants one, get in touch.
  • We're appearing on a Murk-Ta Records (an American label) compilation early in the New Year. I'll let you know when I get copies.
  • Stoat have gone up on soundout.net in their 'indie' section, and wheresthecraic.com in their 'Music, links and MP3' section ('fast, fun and furiously mad', they say - why thank you very much!).
... and, bizarrely
  • News of my recent wedding somehow made its way into the gossip page in Hot Press. Very odd.

  • One of our tunes (Randall) is going on a compilation called 'Celtic Connections'. There'll be 20 acts, 10 from south-eastern Ireland (we're exploiting the Wexford connection) and 10 from west Wales. It's funded, bizarrely, by the EU.

  • We're going to try and cut down a bit on gigs over the next while - gotta write some more tunes. Expect us to be playing no more than once a month for a few months (though if anyone wants us to play a gig, give us a call and we'll see what we can do).
10/06/2000
  • Had interviews lately on DSCR and Anna Livia and they went ... as well as could be expected. Dunno how the interviewers felt about the monkey story though.
  • Recent airplay on Phantom, DSCR, Anna Livia, East Coast Radio and 2FM (good god almighty). It's a fine thing to turn on your car radio and hear your own tunes.

17/05/2000

  • Phantom FM (91.6 FM, and on the web at www.phantomfm.com) have been playing us lately. To make sure they continue to play us, we'd appreciate it if you'd contact them (phone (01) 4780363, e-mail studio@phantomfm.com or leave a message on the guestbook on their website) and request some Stoat.
06/05/2000
  • CD reviewed in Analogue Bubblebath (a long running freesheet available in Dublin independent record shops). Read the review here.
03/05/2000
  • We lost to The Infidels in the Spirit gigs semi-final in Whelan's on Friday. That's it for competitions for us for a while I reckon. Bad for the karma.
  • Saturday's gig with The Redneck Manifesto (an amazing band - check them out) in Limerick went well, and was followed by a nightclub that made me feel 10 years younger. Thanks to the AMC.
27/04/2000
  • Had our first reviews in Hot Press - of the CD and the IMRO showcase gig.
  • Last week's gig on Thursday organised by The Kids was great - great bands, great crowd, great vibe (poor sound though) - so anyone who's on for a rockin night out keep an eye out for anything organised by them

19/04/2000

  • Check out the music page for an MP3 from the new demo.
  • Stoat's first radio appearance live on Anna Livia between 2 and 3pm, Friday April 21st (Good Friday)
  • Stoat MP3 available for download on Cluas.com
